East Bear Creak Expansion

East Bear Creek Road Expansion Project

The East Bear Creek Road expansion is a transformative infrastructure project aimed at enhancing connectivity and supporting the growth of Glenn Heights. This project involves the reconstruction and widening of a two-mile stretch of East Bear Creek Road from South Hampton Road to Interstate Highway 35E. The road will be expanded from two lanes to four lanes, including the addition of sidewalks and bicycle-pedestrian facilities.

Key Details:

  • Funding: The project is funded through a combination of local, state, and federal sources, approved by the Regional Transportation Council (RTC) as part of the Congestion Mitigation Air Quality Improvement Program and the Surface Transportation Block Grant Program.
  • Partners: The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the City of Glenn Heights, and Dallas County are key contributors, providing approximately 40% of the funding.
  • Benefits: The expansion will serve as an economic catalyst, providing amenities and improving the quality of life for residents. It will also address congestion issues and enhance transportation and recreational options within the city.

This project will be done in two phases. Phase One (TxDOT On System) will focus on improving the intersection of East Bear Creek Road and IH 35, with construction planned to start around July 2025.

Phase Two (TxDOT Off-System) is in the early stages of Right of Way (ROW) acquisition and utility relocation, with construction anticipated to start in 2028. Approximately 54 parcels are impacted by this expansion, and additional ROW is needed.

Stay tuned for more updates as we progress with this exciting city-changing project!
