History of Black History Month:

Black History Month finds its roots in Negro History Week, established by Carter G. Woodson in February 1926, aiming to elevate the study of Black experiences and histories. Woodson's vision, manifested through the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH), aimed to expand awareness among people of all backgrounds. February was chosen for its alignment with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, key figures in the abolitionist movement. Over time, this observance evolved into a national celebration, officially recognized by President Gerald Ford in 1976. Today, Black History Month serves as a vital platform to spotlight the contributions and achievements of Black Americans, fostering a deeper understanding of their enduring impact on society and inspiring a more inclusive future.
